CASSANDRA

Cassandra was Laurel's primary musical project between 2014 and 2017.  A feminist art rock power ballad pop project based out of Los Angeles, CA, Cassandra was not only a band but a concept, a performance project, an experimental theatre work, an incubator of collective practice, a feminist action, a cultural impact, a space for creative participation, a vehicle for radical social justice ideas to be aestheticized in a fiercely feminine way, a spectacle, an art event, and an educational activist project.

Cassandra's commitment to holding a space for organic creative participation, rather than taking up space with a fixed and immutable form, meant that the lineup changed with any given manifestation. Cassandra's live stage show, performed at venues throughout LA and the Southern West Coast, was a collaboratively created, tightly choreographed, highly improvised, deeply emotive, certainly dangerous, glittery spectacle of furor and fervor, a physical embodiment of radical ideals, a visible and tangible and sequin-spangled manifestation of a feminist ethos. Cassandra's outrage at the capitalist, white-supremacist hetero-patriarchy and the injustices that pervade our contemporary historical and political moment, particularly  the loss of credibility that accompanies the loss of rights over the body for women and people of color, influenced the writing, recording, and production of both the Stellar Tears EP (Soundcloud, 2015) and For Crying Out Loud (CD Baby, 2017).

We have glitter in our eyes and fervor in our hearts.
We sing truth to power & rage against the violence of silence.

We are always looking for people to join the band.
