WE ARE THE ONES
Directed/Produced by Laurel Butler. We Are The Ones served as the culminating performance for the semester-long Performing Arts and Community Exchange (PACE) course taught by Laurel during her time as an Adjunct Professor at USF, which integrated community arts theory and collaborative facilitation techniques with a critical literacy of mass incarceration. We Are The Ones was collaboratively created by the students of the University of San Francisco Performing Arts and Social Justice Department and the students of the Resolve to Stop the Violence Program at San Francisco Jail #5. Original works of dance, music, theatre and poetry created and performed by incarcerated and non-incarcerated students, as well as the Captain of the jail, were performed for a community audience that included the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, community members from the outside, and those experiencing incarceration in San Francisco Jail #5. |
